Currency, Credit Cards and Exchanging Money

The unit of currency is the Singapore dollar. Coins are in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 20 and 50 cents, and 1 dollar. Bills are in denominations of 5 (green), 10 (red), 50 (blue), 100 (orange) and 1000 (purple) dollars. There is also a $10,000 note, which is one of the world’s most valuable banknotes.

Most stores and restaurants accept Visa, Mastercard and American Express. Most ATMs accept major credit cards.

There are currency changing services available at Changi Ariport, and also throughout the downtown area. Banks commonly open from 9:30am to 3pm on weekdays.
